How would you fit it if the OT arcs? Same as arc by Y/H? My issue is with them both arcing if you get Y off Trips with a Stacked backfield. and they run Zone Arc Read and you’re aligned in Under due to the Trips/Trey set. If so, here’s my thoughts. The ILB fits inside the OT, the Ni fits outside the Y, then that leaves the FS to cap the fit but if there’s a slot then you don’t have a plus 1. Plus, on gap exchange with the heavy 5, the ILB should fit OUTSIDE the OT since he’s the C gap player. Then, he’s boxing it back to the Will, right? I’ve been struggling how to fit in that situation. Of course, if you set the strength to the Y no matter what, then it doesn’t matter. What are your thoughts, Coach A. One of my favorite sites, btw. Always extremely informative and well presented information. Keep it up!
Really appreciate it, Coach! ... If the OT arcs, the 5t has to take the B-gap (Dive) & the ILB would work to head-up the OT, fitting outside. If double arc (YT), the Ni is the force (outside the TE), ILB is inside the TE & you have the DE take the Dive (Will working late - QB to Pitch). You can't expect the Saf to show up because they could run a screen or RPO off this. Someone has to take the Slot. ... GREAT question!
I appreciate your response. I’m glad to see that I was thinking it through accurately. But, thanks for the reminder about screens/RPO’s, I hadn’t thought about that. Definitely a difficult situation to defend. It reminded me of struggles we had fitting vs a flexbone team when I was coaching back in 2011. We had everything fitted up properly vs their option and complimentary runs but they killed us in the 2nd half with PAP because we hadn’t drilled the Safeties properly on how to react. Same thought process but just adjusted to different formation and personnel. Don’t sell out or you’ll get burned. Again, thanks for the reply.
What do you think the offenses next step would be start handling these heavy 5 techs ?
Arc the OT & read the heavy 5t.
