I was a bit surprised to see the D&D 2&7 as personally I'd be worried about A-gap run especially given OG leverage to your point about 3-tech / 4i alignment leaving Mike vs the OC and an open gap.
With benefit of hindsight seems like should be a run check to either RB Draw or QB Iso / Lead Draw. (Acknowledging at the NFL level prob not a good biz model to run franchise QBs between the tackles). Guessing space also disappears faster in NFL and count on those inverted athletic edge rushers to beat guards and fold in while Dent rush by 5-techs further constricts middle? Or would they take different paths if read run?
You are spot on with why it wasn't a run. The only one I know that will do that is Ben Johnson. 2&7 is a passing down. Most NFL offenses are still 50/50 around 2& 5, but you hit 7+ & you are seeing passes.
