would it be possible to combine C3 with Stubbie? I’m wondering if you could lock the Corner and basically play it like FZ C3 for the other 4 eligible receivers. The hot hole defender would basically be a Bonus Hook/Bingo Drop for the weak side, like in Flood coverage for the Saban family. I haven’t found any resources on it, so I assume there’s some overlying reason why it isn’t possible that I haven’t thought of yet
I meant more like true Stubbie with the Corner locked on the #1. My idea is I want to get 3 defenders on the backside of Trips, which is what every Stubbie/Stump coverage allows you to be able to do. For Skinny, it’s still 5 defenders to the Trips & 2 backside.
My idea was:
Corner is MEG #1
Nickel would play MOD on the #2 (Smash & In rules apply), or you could Zone It! and have him play a true D/D 1/3
Mike/Seam/Flat would match the #3 up & out and take the #2 on a smash call
The Will/Hook player would be a Bonus Hook for the weak side, and would be a 4 up is 4 player against 4-strong/Quads.
Then you could Rip/Liz or Zone It! on the backside to the solo receiver.
What you are essentially describing is Skinny, but with a lock tag for the CB. Strong or Weak rotation, you could totally do this. Nickel matches all of #2 up & out with the CB locked on #1.
Typically in 3-Match there is a zone side. Only in 4-open formations or vs. 4 verts are you going to get it confused with Cover 1. Look for the LBs to play zone somewhere or guys pass off routes away from the Nickel.

Yes, it is called Skinny. I have covered it a few times, mainly here: https://www.matchquarters.com/p/packers-match-3-skinny-steal?utm_source=publication-search

What’s the main differences and identifiers between cover 1 and cover 3 match?

Hey Coach, is the '2 up' or weak hook vs 2x2 based off passing strength or safety rotation?
Passing strength
Fantastic exposition. Lots of very useful information. Bookmark and return!
Thank you, Mo!
