Hey 👋 Speaking of Cover 4. Do you think it’s useful to structure run fits based off the RB in Cover 4 if our opponents don’t run RPO’s? We see a fair amount of perimeter screens still so I don’t want to sell out on defending the box
Probably still need to play it like an RPO team. I'd assume the screens are to the back. If not, then you can easily game plan that with your overhangs: to a WR, to the boundary, ect.
Hey, Coach A. I looked back through my data and I was surprised. Our opponents over the past 2 years ran perimeter screens opposite the RB or from Pistol 75% of the time! Full slide with the OL and the RB picking up the edge opposite the screen side. The fact that we rarely see run action tagged with screens, what’s your recommendation on approaching our base fits with our overhangs?
These aren't RPO's but play-action passing. They probably know that you are teaching that overhang opposite the RB to crash in on the back. I'd mix up Back Checked edge pressure and base. Force them to guess & they will probably stop running them. Can also play some trap 2 "roll" coverages and pressure opposite the RB. Basically, bait them into throwing that.
That’s a great observation! I don’t know why I didn’t notice that or think about it that way. It’s always good to see it from a different perspective. I appreciate it! I think we can also do a better job teaching our overhangs the difference between a run block and play action/slide protection. That way they can ID it quicker and play the screen.

100% ... Here to help!
Ok. I’ll have to go back into my breakdown data to check on those details. Thanks for the tips!
Great clips to teach from
Thank you!
