MQ Presents: The DC's Workbook & Worksheets
As always, MatchQuarters brings you the best in defensive templates.
One of my passions has always been opponent scouting and install building. Over the past month, I have been working on a handwritten opponent scout workbook and worksheets that will help streamline workflow, install building, and practice planning. The two items detailed in this message help defensive staffs and their coordinators win back their weekends and simplify the process of opponent breakdowns.
The goal with MatchQuarters has always been to make you think differently about football and explore ideas and trends while bringing you the best quality templates for your staff. Both templates meet that goal. First, I love writing notes as I gameplan and break down my opponents, and I want to share that experience with you. Studies have shown that handwritten notes are superior to digital copies, as I explain in the DC’s Workbook:
“Written notes create deeper processing and memorization. The packet is designed to amplify the game plan process by creating a method to the madness.”
Accompanying the workbook is a set of PowerPoint files from the PDF version. The PowerPoint files allow a staff to adjust the workbook to fit their needs or modify specific worksheets as they see fit. From the coaches I shared the demo with, the ability to have a printable and adjustable version was something they were looking for. This product gives you that option. The workbook is broken down into two sections:
Opponent Breakdown Packet-
Season Situational Inventory
Week # & Opponent
Cut-up List & Post-Game Review
Opponent Schedule & Depth Chart Review
Top R/P Plays, Deep Shot, & Negative Play Analysis
Top Formation Hit Chart
Core/Backfield Report
Special Formation & Shifts/Motions Report
Down & Distance Notes (Overview)
Red Zone Report
Special Situation Report (2pt, Gate, 2min, Gadgets)
Game Plan/Practice Packet-
”Things I like…” & Call Ideas

Weekly Practice Planner

Here is a clip of what you can expect in your file:
Alongside The DC’s Workbook, I created several Excel files that can be manipulated, copied, and adjusted to fit the need of any defensive staff. The file’s design assists in the installation and pedagogy of a defensive install. From an “all-call” inventory to a mock practice plan, each section of the worksheet file has a specific purpose in the process of defensive design. Pair this with The DC’s Workbook, and a staff has everything it needs to implement a defense. Here’s what you get within the Excel file:
Blank call inventory “Bible”
6-Day Install Plan
Weekly checklist
Mock staff responsibilities
Practice planner
Mock practice schedule

Whether a seasoned staff or first-year DC, the combination of these files gives you what you need to own your week and season. Both files contain best practices from the top minds in football and things I have found crucial to the installation and opponent scout process. Above all, the quality of the templates is unmatched, as is the standard at MatchQuarters.
I appreciate all of you, and thank you for inspiring me to keep putting out the best content in ‘ball.
Thank you,
